A happy end for Game of Thrones Season 8 is a very unlikely scenario given that the past seasons' finales did not at least have a happy tone. Aiden Gillen, who famously played Littlefinger, believes this to be the case as well for the final installment.

Gillen shared what he believes will happen in the last season of the HBO series in a brief interview with Entertainment Tonight. Although he has already left the show following his character's death in the Season 7 finale, the actor admits that he still keeps abreast with the happenings in the show.

It is for this reason that he thinks that the final installment will end bitterly. The Bohemian Rhapsody actor believes that a happy end is not how series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss would want to end the show, given how the past seven seasons ended in a tragic note.

"I always thought it'd be nice for it to have a happy ending. But I can't imagine that would be appropriate."

Gillen hopes that Game of Thrones Season 8 ends with "something unexpected." He admits though that he honestly does not know how the show ends. The Peaky Blinders actor adds that even the show's bosses do not have any idea how the season ends.

Game of Thrones has made a habit of killing most of its major characters in the past seven seasons that it would not be a surprise to see the same scenario play out in Season 8. As for Gillen's character, he met his maker in the penultimate season after years of manipulating the Starks. A true turncoat, Petyr Baelish aka Littlefinger, turned situations into his favor without thoughts of the consequences.

Littlefinger attached himself to Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) from the later part of Season 6 until Season 7 in the hopes of getting a seat among the kings and queens of the North. Had it not for Arya (Maisie Williams), Sansa would still have been manipulated by the conniving Littlefinger. The man died in the hands of Sansa's little sister, who returned to Winterfell as a trained assassin.

Talking about his character's death, Gillen said that he is not bitter about it and revealed that he already saw Littlefinger's demise coming. The actor even expressed his excitement to watch Game of Thrones Season 8 as an audience member, now that he is no longer in the show.
