Despite the poor sales of the first-generation video game systems from Soulja Boy, reports confirm that another two are on the way. The musician was all over the headlines a few weeks ago when he announced his plans to market video game consoles. The majority of the feedback from gamers and industry analysts are sadly not favorable. However, the rapper claims that the release of new hardware proves that his project was a success.
The announcement was reportedly made on Twitter, wherein he introduced the SouljaGame Fuze. Sources quickly noted that the product seems like a cheap knockoff of Sony's current-generation console. Moreover, upon closer inspection, the wireless controllers remarkably resemble Microsoft's Xbox One controller, as pointed out by an article from Game Rant. A product description even mentions that the peripheral can "get rid of the shackles of the thread," which looks like a poorly translated statement.
There is clearly a lack of relevant information about the new console. Twitter users that read Soulja Boy's post about the SouljaGame Fuze are confused about the software. Based on the tweet, the video game device allegedly boasts over 200 global partners. The image included even names developers such as Codemasters, Koei Tecmo, Ubisoft, Arc System Works, and more. However, not a single title was listed on the social media post or the official website.
A close-up analysis of the marketing campaign for the new products reveals that similar to its predecessors, the items are evidently a rebranding of existing devices available in the Chinese market. The website indicates that the manufacturer is called Cdragon. Searching via Google reveals several game systems that are visibly a copy of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. It looks like the musician is relying on a dropshipping service to order the items and sell them at a substantial markup.
Another item being offered by the musician's website is a blatant copy of another successful game system. One look at the Retro Souljaboy Mini unmistakably shows a knock-off of the Nintendo Game Boy. Additionally, it appears that Soulja Boy will soon open a physical store in California to market his products. Other items listed on his online store include a smartwatch, a smartphone, a tablet, Bluetooth headphones, and more. Finally, Game Revolution reports that his next foray into gaming will see his participation into the world of esports. Looking at his Twitter posts, his foray into tech and gaming will not be stopping anytime soon.
