Aside from the joy and gifts that envelops everyone, the end of December is also a time where festivities are celebrated all around the corner.
Different mouth-watering delicacies are offered in every table. So, it is not just the hearts that are being filled with good things, but also your little belly.
Unfortunately, among 48 million incidents of foodborne illnesses recorded annually according to the details of FDA, this season tend to record the highest rate of people infected with such.
Health experts say this rate becomes possible since attending festive celebrations, with all those delicious foods, can make you more susceptible to pathogens. These microbes, once ingested could definitely harm your tummy or even your body as a whole.
One of the reasons for this is the possibility of unhygienic preparation and storing of the delicacies served during this season.
Since almost all people are busy during this time, others tend to prepare their Christmas party with limited time. Others are just too busy they don't prioritize food safety practices anymore.
So since these pathogens are present in almost everywhere, how can you really secure yourself against these negative microbes that could cause harm to you during this season?
ALWAYS WASH YOUR HANDS
Microbes can be removed easily if you only follow the proper steps for hygiene. One of the most basic things to do is to wash your hands properly. If you want the best effects, do it for at least 20 seconds. Wash your hands especially when you are about to prepare your food. It is also a must that your hands are clean after touching raw meat, eggs, vegetables, and fruits, before and after eating, before touching your favorite pet, and especially after using the toilet.
ALWAYS MAKE SURE YOUR FOOD IS WELL-COOKED
Ingredients such as meat, seafood, eggs, and poultry came from a farm, which could be the haven for bacteria and germs that could possibly poison someone, as posted by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That's why it is important to remember not to be tempted with all the food that is offered to you. Make sure what you will eat is well cooked before you grab a bite.
HAVE ENOUGH SLEEP
Studies show how sufficient sleep can make the body stronger in battling factors that could cause destruction to it. So, if you want to protect yourself, aim to have at least seven hours a day sleep during these holidays. This could be quite hard to do with all the parties and all, but doing so is surely worth it.
Other ways that could help you avoid digestive problems during this season are by taking extra precaution in eating seafood and by remembering not to eat foods that contain raw eggs in it since these foods can be susceptible to E.coli and Salmonella.
