As 2019 starts, the tech industry is expected to be more innovated. There will be a rise in 5G, Artificial Intelligence (AI), electric cars, and Robocop, among others, this year.
5G
Tech enthusiasts may finally see the emergence of 5G-capable phones this year as well as network services. According to Digital Trends, AT&T has released a standard-based 5G while Verizon is set to launch its line in the middle of 2019. Both networks used mmWave technology.
So by the end of the year, almost every major city and nearby suburbs can use 5G from one carrier or more. Rural areas, on the other hand, have to wait until 2020 to have access to this new technology.
Electric Car
Aside from Elon Musk's Tesla, the car industry will venture to the making of electric cars. Luxury car brands like Audi, Aston Martin, Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz, and Porsche are about to launch its electric car models this year. But with its names, expect a hefty price.
There will be also affordable electric car models like Mini E, Volvo XC40, Tesla Model 3, and Volkswagen E-Golf. So by the end of 2019, car and tech enthusiasts can expect to see every major car maker to debut or produce its electric car lines. However, the vehicle's availability in the market may probably start in 2020 or "at least five years off," but its production will surely start this year.
Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Consumer Technology Association research vice president Steve Koenig said, via the South China Morning Post, that artificial intelligence (AI) will reach its critical mass production in commercial and consumer grounds this year. "For businesses, machine-learning is improving processes and, in some cases, automating them for even greater efficiency," he explained.
Digital assistants, like Alexa, are now in the rise. These things help its users with their everyday tasks from researching to buying products online.
Robocop
Robocop is now coming to life as companies like Microsoft and Uber use Knightscope K5 robots to patrol car parks and other outdoor areas in the United States. "These robots can read [car number] plates, report suspicious activity and collect data to report to their owners," the global research and advisory firm Gartner vice president David Cearley said.
However, these Robocop is different from the sci-fi movie "RoboCop." This K7 prototype carries a smart-car look. In a matter of time, people may see a Transformer-inspired law enforcement officer soon.
