HBO finally released the first ever teaser for Game of Thrones Season 8 called the "Crypts of Winterfell." The preview shows the Stark siblings reunite and await the arrival of the undead.
After several clamors from fans, the TV network finally unveiled the trailer and announced the release date for Season 8. The final installment arrives on April 14 and to bide the time for its return; fans looked into the details in the teaser to find out what they can about what happens in the story.
For starters, the preview shows the Stark siblings Jon Snow, Sansa, and Arya reunite as they walk the dark halls of the Winterfell crypts. It is unknown when this scene in Game of Thrones Season 8 happens although it is likely in the first few episodes after Jon returns to Winterfell with Daenerys and her army to prepare everyone for the battle with the Night King.
Vladimir Furdik, who plays the Night King, confirmed in a previous interview that the anticipated battle with the undead happens in the third episode. Another tell-tale sign from the teaser that tells this scene happens in the first few episodes is the frost that slowly gathered around on the ground, which could only mean the arrival of the Night King and his army.
The last time viewers saw them in the Season 7 finale; they were bound for the North after they have toppled The Wall with the wight dragon Viserion's help. The first line of defense of the North is Winterfell, which is obviously, where they were headed. Past reports also confirmed that the Night King battle happens in Winterfell.
The Game of Thrones Season 8 teaser reunites the Starks siblings, although Bran is clearly not among them. This is to be expected given that he no longer sees himself as a Lord of Winterfell and fully considers himself as the Three-Eyed-Raven. He has gone beyond the concerns of humanity.
Interestingly, the teaser may have also hinted at the reunion of all Stark family in Game of Thrones Season 8, including the dead. The arrival of the Night King in Winterfell fuel rumors about the return of the dead Starks. George R.R. Martin's books foreshadowed the return of the deceased in the crypts of Winterfell, although there is no mention whether they turn into wights. Instead, it tells of the rise of the dead Starks along with their direwolves, "full of vengeance and rage, dark and strong to fight against the Others."
