Future Xiaomi phone models are expected to have a dual camera as they finally acquired the patent for a dual punch-hole camera phone. They are now following the trend of smartphones donning dual cameras for better photo qualities and photoshoot experience.
In an article published by GSMArena, the Chinese electronics company has the design patent of the Beijing Xiaomi Mobile Software of two punch-holes cameras. It was published in the Global Design Database of the World Intellectual Property Office on January 29.
The listing of Xiaomi's model design is filled with 24 different designs. This includes new camera features two elliptical holes on opposite corners and more.
The public is already familiar with a dual punch-hole camera phone like Samsung, Huawei, and its subsidiary Honor releasing their smartphone devices with the mentioned feature. However, the patent that Xiaomi purchased is different from the other mobile phone devices' design.
While Samsung phones have one elliptical cutout hosting the dual selfie snappers, the next Xiaomi flagship will have two separate holes. The second hole is speculated to be for a secondary front-facing camera or proximity sensor or notification light.
Dutch gadgets site LetsGoDigital also indicated that the Xiaomi patent design shows a full-screen display with the front camera placed in the left and right corners. One of the models in the patent design also shows the receiver placed behind the screen.
Last year, Xiaomi was rumored to have been developing with a punch-hole selfie camera. However, it is still unknown if this design will be featured within the Mi or Redmi series.
The Mi series of Xiaomi showcases premium smartphones. On the other hand, the Redmi series offers middle-class smartphones for those who wanted more affordable models.
The rumors also came after Xiaomi released Mi Mix 3, the company's first full-screen smartphone. The model does not have a punch-hole camera but it showcases a retractable camera.
So far, a smartphone with the receiver and the sensors placed under the display and apart from the fingerprint sensor has yet to be released. Xiaomi could be the first one who would release this model design.
A double selfie camera under the screen is expected to be featured for the first time at the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus model on February 20, 2019. Xiaomi is also expected to present their new phone model at the MWC 2019 by the end of February.
Besides the model design in the patent, Xiaomi is also expected to unveil more details and news regarding their foldable smartphone. It is one of the highly anticipated models from them.
