Have you already tried a cup of one of the world's most well-known tea Kombucha?

Aside from its clean and slightly sweet flavor, which everyone is left coming back for more, this fermented beverage has also gained its golden reputation for being one of the healthiest beverages the market has at present.

Known as the "Immortal Health Elixir" by the ancient Chinese, Kombucha tea was already around the shelves of the people who are aiming for good health for about 2,000 years already. According to some testimonies, consuming it can be very beneficial to the body as it can fight and prevent several diseases such as cancer, degenerative diseases, and arthritis, as reported by Food Renegade.

But is it really that beneficial to one's health?

Scott Perlmeter, the founder of Upstart Kombucha, shared how a cup of this tea can be a healthy boost to the body. "There are a lot of health benefits within kombucha", Perlmeter said.

The founder explained that the main benefit of the drink is the probiotics in it. In fact, a serving has about 5 billion probiotics. This goodness prevents the body from gastrointestinal diseases, reduce and relieve the pain and symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), and also help the body absorb the nutrients from the food.

Aside from that, Perlmeter also shared that a serving of Kombucha has also a lot of antioxidants in it. These antioxidants act like guards that balance free radicals, which can contribute to a person's aging process, and also keeps the body from diseases like diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and cancers.

Jessica Crandall, another expert and also a registered dietitian, agreed as to how the body can be beneficial to the body. She explained, "We know that kombucha is a fermented tea that could have the bacteria we are looking for to help rebuild or restore our gut health."

But Crandall points out that consuming it can also be risky since there is still no specific scientific evidence that could back up what kind of bacteria is in the beverage and how much of these bacteria does the beverage have.

Another nutrition expert Dr. Zhaoping Li, professor of medicine and director of UCLA's Center for Human Nutrition, explains how uncertain are the effects of kombucha to its consumers as of the writing. According to the expert, the tea has originated from a place called kombucha, where "people kind takes the concept and run with it" without really depending on science for truths.

With this, experts warn consumers not to drink too much of the beverage, as posted by KTNV Las Vegas. Though it might be a better alternative than soda, people have to still be cautious of the drink especially if they are already suffering from health issues.
