LG's newest flagship smartphone will feature technology that turns the screen into a speaker.
In a press release, Korean tech giant LG announced that their upcoming smartphone, the G8 ThinQ, will feature the company's proprietary Crystal Sound OLED technology, which uses the phone's OLED display as an audio amplifier.
The CSO technology vibrates the display to produce sound. And because the entire display will be used to produce sound, LG says the G8 ThinQ will be capable of delivering high-quality sound at impressive volume levels.
The CSO effectively eliminates the need for front-facing speakers near the top end of the phone. This means there won't be a need for larger bezels near the top end, save for a few components such as a selfie camera. Nevertheless, in utilizing the CSO, LG has managed to produce a phone with a notch smaller than that of the iPhone X.
With the entire screen working as a speaker, LG says the G8 ThinQ is able to produce crisp, clear sound. Users will be able to distinguish both overt and subtle musical notes easily. In addition, the sound will still be heard even if the top area of the phone is covered, unlike other smartphone models.
In addition to the CSO, the G8 ThinQ also features a loudspeaker at the bottom part of the phone. This loudspeaker delivers impressive bass levels when the G8 ThinQ is used as a speakerphone. And when both CSO and loudspeaker work together, the phone is capable of producing full-bodied stereo quality sound,
These features make the G8 ThinQ the perfect mobile device for watching videos and movies, doing some online streaming, or even playing mobile videogames.
The LG G8 ThinQ also features DTS:X 3D Surround Sound, enabling the phone to produce a truly immersive sound experience even without earphones.
Great news for those who love to use or have already invested in wired headphones! LG also fitted the G8 ThinQ with Hi-Fi Quad DAC found in their other recent smartphones, which means it will come with a headphone jack, The Verge noted.
The G8 ThinQ will also feature the "Boombox Speaker" functionality -- it will use all the phone's available internal space as a resonance chamber to produce outstanding bass and volume levels. This is best experienced when the phone is placed on the table or any hard and flat surface.
LG says the G8 ThinQ will be shown at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this February 25-28.
