There is no denying that Sherlock Season 5 is among the highly-anticipated series today. As a matter of fact, the yet-to-be-confirmed installment of the popular British crime drama television series is considered as one of the trending topics online since the fourth season's finale. But, should avid followers of the show expect a brand-new installment?
BBC has not yet announced the renewal of the show. However, the cast members are very much thrilled to make more episodes of the show, which is based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes detective stories. Even showrunners Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat are looking forward to doing Sherlock Season 5.
In 2016, series co-writer Steven Moffat told Digital Spy that it is kind of impossible Sherlock would disappear all of a sudden. "We're all constantly thrilled and amazed by people's enthusiasm for Sherlock," he said when asked about Sherlock Season 5 at the time. "We hope to carry on as long as we can," Moffat added.
Moffat, however, revealed he and Mark Gatiss have not talked about Sherlock Season 5 yet. The series co-creator said he got busy working on other projects while Mark had been doing other stuff also. The good thing is, even series main star Benedict Cumberbatch loves the idea of having a new installment of the popular television series.
The actor said he keep on revisiting Sherlock even after the series' fourth installment. Cumberbatch even admitted that not playing as the well-known detective is maddening. He, however, pointed out that Sherlock Season 5 might not be the same with the previous installments.
Aside from Benedict Cumberbatch, Eleanor Matsuura is also interested to reprise her role in Sherlock Season 5. The Walking Dead Season 9 actress shared that she is a huge fan of the show, from its actors to its plotline. Matsuura was introduced as Detective Inspector Stella Hopkins in the series' fourth installment. Hopkins was a fan of Sherlock that she hopes to consult a number of unsolved cases with the popular crime solver.
Even Martin Freeman, Sian Brooke, and Louise Brealey also expressed their desires to return for another Sherlock installment, which is predicted to happen in 2022 or 2023. However, BBC has yet to confirm if the series is up for another installment. So, avid followers of the show should take all unconfirmed claims with a grain of salt until everything is proven true and correct.
