Nintendo Switch fans, rejoice! Reports say that a "dead and long buried" title is being brought back to life and will be released for the hybrid console.
Canceled Xbox One action-RPG title "Scalebound" is reportedly being revived and is slated to be released for the Switch console, online news outlet Nintendo Insider reported. The news comes alongside leaks that popped out fairly recently.
Fans will remember Scalebound as one of those promising titles revealed during E3 in 2014. Microsoft, however, decided to pull the plug on Scalebound's production in 2017, disappointing hopeful fans. A year later, however, something happened.
Notable games journalist and former IGN editor Alanah Pearce recently tweeted that in June 2018, someone she considered "credible" told her that the title will still be released someday. And when it does get released, it won't be an Xbox exclusive anymore.
The games journalist added that she didn't believe her sources at the time. Now, she says that "maybe" what she heard was actually true.
Pearce's tweet seems to coincide with what Game Informer Senior Editor Imran Khan said in an interview with Kinda Funny Games last week, saying Nintendo's in the process of reviving a game that most people wouldn't expect to see, because it was thought to be dead, a title that was "very officially cancelled."
And that's what Scalebound was: officially canceled.
Although Microsoft renewed the Scalebound trademark sometime after officially canceling it, they also had to cancel the trademark filing for failure to cite a reason for its use. Now, it appears that PlatinumGames is working with Nintendo to have the title revived and brought to the gaming public's hands.
An epic adventure
Scalebound features a male protagonist named Drew, who is transported into the world of Draconis. There, he gets bonded to a fearsome and noble dragon named Thuban, who is the last of his kind.
Armed with a "dragon arm" and paired with his enormous beast of a companion, Drew sets out to explore the dangerous world of Draconis and to defeat foes that threaten it, Earth, and other parallel worlds.
If these reports prove true, Switch owners will have a new and exciting title added to their game library. What remains to be seen is how the game developers will make it work on the Switch; Scalebound was originally designed for the more powerful Xbox One, after all.
These are but unconfirmed details as of the moment, and so it would better to take it all with a grain of salt. Stay tuned for more updates regarding Scalebound as they come.
