Kevin Owens finally made his return to the WWE scene and the Canadian professional wrestler immediately got a shot at Daniel Bryan's heavyweight title. All this went down on the Feb. 26 edition of WWE SmackDown with the 34-year-old dislodging Kofi Kingston from the title opportunity originally set for WWE Fastlane on Mar. 10.
It was WWE CEO Vince McMahon who masterminded the change on who Bryan will face at the upcoming pay-per-view, something that did not sit well with the New Day. It remains to be seen if this will be the final match for Fastlane although there is still one more SmackDown episode (Mar. 5) happening. Could it be changed into a Triple-Threat match instead?
Regardless, Owens and Kingston ended up teaming later that night to take on Bryan and Rowan. The tandem seemed to work with the Dreadlocked Dynamo keeping it professional with KO after the win, WWE.com said.
Speaking of finishers, Owen used a familiar one that most would credit to WWE legend Stonecold Steve Austin. It was a perfectly timed stunner, something most believed was part of the Canadian's turn to a face wrestler.
Hey @steveaustinBSR, I finally figured it out! — Now. (@FightOwensFight) February 27, 2019
According to Cageside Seats, Owens has long been a fan of Austin - someone who he has asked for tips back in 2015. It was not the first time that he used the finishing move. Back in 2017, he used it on Roman Reigns as well although WWE fans may have not taken notice. He even went on to tell Austin on Twitter that he finally figured it out.
Owens is likely to be on tap again next week and his opponent remains to be seen. A potential scenario would see him face Kingston once more with the title-shot up for grabs.
If not that route, both WWE stars could partner once more in tag team action. Unlike what went down on the Feb. 26 edition, things could turn out messy. Big E and Xavier Woods could get into it as well. In all, Owens will need to watch his back since Bryan is not the only one he will have to worry about.
Should this carry on until WWE Fastlane, it looks like Owens will be facing tall odds to become the new WWE SmackDown heavyweight champion. The New Day will be lurking somewhere and cause distractions - if not cost KO the title. Hence, a title-change at Fastlane is looming unlikely unless some diabolical twist is in the cards.
