A biopic to narrate the in-ring story of WWE legend Hulk Hogan is reportedly in the works and Chris Hemsworth has the lead role. The Netflix film will cover only the wrestling success of Terry Bollea and not his personal life, one that has hounded the WWE icon the past years.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the biopic will cover the rise of the Hulkster which started back in the 1980s. To date, Hogan has proven to be one of the well-loved and popular stars in the wrestling entertainment industry despite forgettable incidents in his personal life.
This included the infamous racist remarks he said in a sex tape, a dark moment in the 65-year-old’s life. When this spread out, the WWE would cut ties with Hogan in 2015. Everything has cleared since then with Hogan back in the WWE scene. He has already made several appearances in TV shows and is likely to be at Wrestlemania 35 this coming April in a non-wrestling role.
Hogan has starred opposite several top WWF/ WWE superstars in the past. This includes Randy “Macho Man” Savage, Paul Orndorff, Roddy Piper, King Kong Bundy, The Ultimate Warrior and of course Andre The Giant. It was his colossal clash with Andre The Giant in 1987 that most still remember up to this day.
Hogan also appeared in other wrestling factions such as the New Japan Pro Wrestling and World Championship Wrestling. Like the WWE, both companies benefitted from the presence of Hulk Hogan.
Though it was not mentioned, it is likely that the biopic will focus on the in-ring success of the Hulkster. The bulk of that would come from the WWE although the WCW is likely to be included as well. The WWE would end up buying WCW on Mar. 23, 2001.
It will be interesting how Hemsworth would take on the role. He has been spotted on several mixed martial arts event, the last of which was UFC 234 that went down this month. There is no word on how well-versed Hemsworth is on the WWE. If ever he is, it will be interesting how far that dates back.
Todd Phillips and Scott Silver will be the director and writer respectively. The duo just recently worked together on "The Joker," an origin story for the legendary DC comic book villain (played by Joaquin Phoenix), CBS said.
As for Hemsworth, other films outside his Thor character include starring in a reboot of “Men In Black” set for release later this year.
