If a recent leak is true, those who have been waiting for "The Last Of Us Part II" will be very happy to know that the game will indeed be released this year. Read on for more details.
The leak, coming from Peruvian gaming retailer LawGamers, comes in the form of promotional material for TLOU2, online gaming news outlet Gaming Intel reported. The promotional material, which said preorders of the hotly anticipated title are now accepted, had an October 2019 release date.
Added evidence
This new leak, if true, adds to the seemingly growing list of clues pointing to a 2019 release. Naughty Dog is silent about it, but the rumor mill is not.
Earlier, Sony itself hinted that the game will be released in 2019. According to the official PlayStation Music channel in YouTube, the game will be released in 2019. This is based on a video the channel uploaded. The video had the caption: "Music from The Last Of Us Part II (2019) PSX Panel."
Also, another clue comes from game director Neil Druckmann's tweets. In 2017, Druckmann said they were about 50-60% into finishing the game. A year later, in December 2018, Druckman said he's excited to see everyone's response to "the full game."
Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean the game is finished. But considering that a year has passed since the first tweet, and also considering the change in Druckmann's tone, it could very well be possible that the game is almost finished and about to be released.
Another clue came from TLOU soundtrack composer Gustavo Santaolalla. While performing in Kuwait, the composer simply said the game is coming out soon. Whether he was authorized to speak about the game or not, the cat's already out of the bag: the soundtrack composer already said it's coming.
Lastly, another clue came via Alanah Pearce, former editor for IGN. According to her tweets (which have been since deleted), several sources told her that Naughty Dog is working on TLOU2, and that the game is set to arrive in 2019.
Pearce didn't specify a date, though. She said that although several sources told her the same thing, the actual release date still will depend on Naughty Dog. Until the game developer announces it, it's best to wait.
True or false?
Based on all these clues, it's possible that LawGamer's leak could be true. But with the promotional material taken down as of writing time, we really don't know. It could be that it was just published way ahead of time, or it just wasn't true.
Stay tuned for more updates as they come.
