Oscar De La Hoya believes that the rematch between Floyd Mayweather and Canelo Alvarez could be a $1.5 billion match.

Oscar De La Hoya, a former world champion released a statement on March 4 expressing his high expectation towards the Floyd Mayweather vs. Canelo Alvarez fight. He said that of the fight will get a chance to materialize, it will be no ordinary match as it will be a worth $1.5 billion fight. De La Hoya further stressed out that Floyd has more than one billion reasons to step into the ring and make the Mayweather vs Alvarez fight happen.

De La Hoya believes that there is still a possibility that Mayweather will come out of retirement to take on Alvarez. Canelo who is now promoted by De La Hoya also expressed his eagerness to stand in the ring with Mayweather once again. He even stated that he is dead serious about setting up a rematch with the Michigan-born retired champion.

Floyd Mayweather defeated Canelo Alvarez who was 23 years old during the fight on September 2013 by majority decision. The said defeat remains Canelo's only defeat throughout his professional career. Alvarez remained bold from then on expressing his desire to avenge the said defeat.

With the number of years passed, Canelo displayed a lot of improvement in his professional career.  He is now 28 years old and will be defending his WBA and WBC middleweight titles on his match against Daniel Jacobs, International Boxing Federation middleweight champion. The match will be held at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on May 4.

Floyd Mayweather, 42 declared his retirement way back September 2015 after defeating Andre Berto. On August 2017, Mayweather went back to the ring to defeat Conor McGregor, a UFC star. Late in 2018, he defeated Tenshin Nasukawa, a Japanese kickboxer in an exhibition. His two previous matches urged Oscar De La Hoya to speak up and challenge him to stop the match against fighters who are two-weight divisions smaller than him.

Back in 2013, Mayweather got a $41million guarantee after his fight against Alvarez. His value, however, increased claiming that he gained more than $300 million fight on his match against Mc Gregor as well as Manny Pacquiao.

Canelo on the other hand, increased value as well signing up a $365 million fight contract under DAZN after his victory against stars such as like Miguel Cotto, Amir Khan, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., and Gennady Golovkin.
