Did you know that years ago around the 19th century, men tend to have a higher life expectancy rate as compared to women? But that slowly changed overtime. Recent information about life expectancy rate reveals the exact opposite.

Statistics show how women outlive men in almost every society unlike before. According to the Population Reference Bureau (PRB), women living in developed countries have a higher life expectancy rate about an average of 79 years old, as compared to men's 72 years. In less developed countries, on the other hand, women have an average of 66 years to live, and men have 63 years.

Experts say that this gap is mainly because of the difference in the behavior of men and women. Like for example, men tend to smoke than women. This alone can already result in more health hazard risks such as respiratory problems like emphysema, chronic bronchitis, asthma, and lung cancer.

Also, men tend to drink alcoholic beverages more than women. A study says that heavy drinkers are much more at risks of having cardiovascular diseases than those that don't drink alcohol at all.

Men are also more at risks of accidents than women. According to an article reported by CBS News, almost 11,900 male drivers died because of road accidents in the US in 2009 alone. Almost doubled the number of women's death, which is only about 4,900.

Aside from behavioral differences, men and women also have biological differences, which experts consider as another reason why women have a higher life expectancy rate than men. Science explains that the estrogen found in the women's body acts like a warrior that is able to combat health problems such as cardiovascular diseases. This hormones, which is naturally produced by the woman's body, is very effective to reduce bad cholesterol.

Furthermore, experts say that a woman's body, though men tend to be stronger in strength, has a stronger immune system than their counterpart. This explains why men are more prone to infection and viruses as compared to women.

With the results the study has revealed, researchers remind men not to feel too bad about it since there is still a way to alter the situation. Through another research, experts were able to discover that life expectancy of a person can improve with the help of enough health information, and wealth to supply the basic needs of healthy well-being like supplements and vitamins. By embracing these things, men's life expectancy can possibly increase.
