The follow-up installment to the 2017 hit film Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is on the horizon. The sequel is finally here, and there is a lot to look forward to on the upcoming movie. Sony Pictures is set to bring Jumanji 2 on the big screen by December this year.
The original 1995 Jumanji flick has been bannered by the late actor Robin Williams and actress Bonnie Hunt. The story is based on a board game that suddenly turns real for every throw of the dice. Together with Bradley Pierce and Kirsten Dunst, the two must withstand the challenges of nature to survive.
There is a lot to build upon from the 2017 motion picture which managed to surprise critics around that time. With a plot based on four teenagers who found themselves integrated into a video game, the Welcome to the Jungle segment has managed to take in more than $962 million globally. It has become the fifth top-grossing film for that year.
Entertainment outfit Sony is the first to reveal that an installment is coming up. Actor Dwayne Johnson has confirmed the welcome development. It is expected that co-stars Karen Gillan, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black will be rejoining the cast.
Although no news has been revealed about the movie's next storyline, it is likely that the plot will be following on the heels of the previous one. A big reason for this is the return of Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg. Both writers are on the 2017 creative team that also included Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna. Jake Kasdan will also be back to direct the picture.
Also set to be on-board are Awkwafina and Danny DeVito. The former is a rapper-actress who is known for her participation in the Crazy Rich Asians flick. The latter has been popularly associated with famous films like Twins with Arnold Schwarzenegger, Matilda; Batman Returns as the Penguin, Jewel of the Nile; and The War of the Roses with Michael Douglas.
The cast will also add Danny Glover to its fold. The Lethal Weapon movies co-star of Mel Gibson is yet to unveil what role will he be playing on the Jumanji 2 franchise. Johnson has been quick to share his excitement in working with Glover who he considers as one of his favorite action heroes.
Meanwhile, the four teenagers from the previous franchise will also be back in the impending installment. Ser'Darius Blain, Alex Wolff, Madison Iseman, and Morgan Turner will all rejoin their adult selves in Jumanji 2.
