The second season of Killing Eve is ready to premiere on BBC America on Sunday, April 7, at 8:00 p.m. The show starring Sandra Oh, as the MI5 agent Eve Polastri, and Jodie Comer, as the psychotic assassin Villanelle, is expected to pick up 30 seconds after last season's finale.
Based on the novella from Luke Jennings, Killing Eve season 2 will have significant changes that will deviate from the novella. Executive producer Elinor Day confirmed that they had shifted the story for the TV series as they have used up the book source materials early on.
"We're not following [the novella] at all anymore because all those storylines were used up relatively early, and because the tone is so different," Day told Entertainment Weekly. "By now the tone of the show has become so precise to itself, particularly with the slightly anarchic comedy."
According to Day, Jennings reads through the draft and gives his seal of approval. But whatever happens on the show is no longer similar to the book despite Jennings coming out with the second novella this year.
Killing Eve head writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge is also not working on the second season. She's still an executive producer but Emerald Fennell, who is good friends with Waller-Bridge, has been tasked to take over the writing duties. Day said that even with the new but experienced writer on board, Killing Eve season 2 still has the same humor down to pat.
Meanwhile, Killing Eve season 1 left off with Eve stabbing Villanelle and how the latter reacts to this will be interesting for viewers. The teaser might have shown some resolution to what happened to that final scene, but it also revealed that Villanelle is back to her crazy antics soon enough.
Comer's voiceover in the teaser warns that people do crazy things for the ones they love. Killing Eve season 2 suggests that this cat and mouse game between the MI5 agent and assassin may delve deeper into their bond or border on the creepy side with Villanelle realizing that she has to take back control from Eve.
The first four episode titles for Killing Eve season 2 might give clues to what's up ahead for this spy series.
- Episode 1 - "Do You Know How To Dispose Of A Body?"
- Episode 2 - "Nice and Neat"
- Episode 3 - "The Hungry Caterpillar"
- Episode 4 - "Desperate Times"
In addition to the story changes, three new actors are also going to board Killing Eve season 2, as per Screen Rant. The roles of Nina Sosanya, Edward Bluemel and Julian Barratt, however, have not yet been disclosed. Viewers may have to wait until April 7 to find out where they all fit in the new season.
