There is no denying that the Golden State Warriors are primed for their third consecutive NBA title this 2018-19 season. But for pundits, the better question to ask is who will stay and who will go after this campaign.

Throughout the season, two key Warriors have made headlines with most speculating on their future - Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson. Durant has been closely linked to joining the New York Knicks where he could be possibly joined by Kyrie Irving.

According to the Athletic, select and unnamed executives believe that Durant and Irving will be teaming up at Gotham starting next NBA season. But of course, there are certain precedents to consider such as what the current teams of the NBA stars will be pitching once their contract runs out.

For Durant, staying in the Bay Area may depend on whether he is given a max contract deal but the Dubs. Seeing his value and how he would be one of the sought-after players by other teams, Golden State is expected to exhaust all efforts to keep him. Right now, Durant may have no clear reason to leave Dub City unless those petty internal issues come out.

Another Warriors star who will be pursued by teams is Klay Thompson. Although his dad did play for the Lakers, critics believe that he may either stick with the Warriors or listen to pitches of other teams - except the Lakers. In fact, a discussion on Brian Windhorst's podcast hints that Los Angeles may not be given the chance to pitch to him - something similar to what Paul George did when he immediately signed with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Hence, it may all depend on how well the Warriors are able to do the numbers crunch. Giving both Durant and Thompson lucrative deals will be costly, not to mention likely affect other players on the roster. Keeping their core which also includes Stephen Curry and Draymond Green will be tough, meaning owners Joseph S. Lacob and Peter Guber may find themselves significantly over the salary cap and deep in the luxury tax hole, Forbes said.

There are plenty of scenarios the Warriors. It could even boil down to sacrificing some player/s to keep the Dubs core intact. These are some of the things that lie ahead for Golden State, probably something that will sink in once their NBA season officially comes to a close.

For now, is it all about snagging their third consecutive NBA title and worrying about the repercussions thereafter.
