It's not every day that no less than the Chief Executive Officer of a trailblazing tech company tweets something about an upcoming device. While they can be on top of all things done behind closed doors, it's seldom that they go out in public and tease their fans. It just goes to show that they are also looking forward to giving consumers the next best thing in the market.
This is exactly what OnePlus CEO and founder Pete Lau did in his latest Tweet. According to the head honcho, a new OnePlus device will be launched this Wednesday. He's also encouraging his followers to check back on him to know that the fuzz is all about. Looking at OnePlus' paper trail - and the multitude of buzz that hugs OnePlus - Lau might drop the OnePlus 7.
I know you guys are stoked to hear about the new device - check back to see my post this Wednesday — Pete Lau (@petelau2007) April 15, 2019
Tech Radar speculated however that Lau is referring to another handset aside from the OnePlus 7. The latter, they added, has yet to receive its official name, so it's "entirely possible" that the CEO is talking about something else. In all likelihood, it could be a new 5G Smartphone, and it may or may not be a version of the OnePlus 7. A "new device" is too vague a term to go and conclude something that might just go down the drain.
OnePlus' timeline is also suggesting the contrary. The website said that the company "traditionally" releases its newly-numbered handhelds sometime in May or June. Another leak points to the OnePlus 7 -which is now the center of attraction because of Lau's Tweet - might be announced on May 14. However, then again, these are not official announcements.
The OnePlus 7 needs no introduction as far as chitchats are concerned. Several outfits have already reported that the device will have a "Pro" variant that will complement the regular OnePlus 7. The Pro version is rumored to sport a 6.67inch Super Optic curved AMOLED display, Snapdragon 855 CPU, 8GB RAM and 256GB of onboard memory.
"Speed" will once again be OnePlus' selling point, with the OnePlus 7 Pro going with "Go Beyond Speed" as its tagline. This goes along the line of "The Speed You Need", which was bestowed to the OnePlus 6 and "Unlock The Speed" of the OnePlus 6T. There's also a floating word that the OnePlus 7 Pro will incorporate a triple rear-camera setup and a 5G version. The OnePlus 7 Pro 5G should cost around $200 to $300 more than its 4G counterpart, added Tech Radar.
