Anthony Davis is still the golden chip most teams in the NBA would like to pick this summer. Over the past months, the former No.1 draft pick became the center of controversy when he announced his intent to be traded. This led to the Los Angeles Lakers offering the Pelicans almost half of their roster, and it included Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma, and Brandon Ingram.
Although the deal didn't push through, Davis and the Lakers became an issue because of how the team played in anticipation of Davis joining them. New Orleans, however, had to close the trading talks and kept Davis. Still, the big man is set to depart from the Pelicans: his "That's All Folks" shirt during a loss to the Warriors says it all.
Aside from the Lakers as frontrunners to land Davis, the Boston Celtics are also being eyed to be a strong contender. The Kyrie Irving-led team is in the Playoffs and having Davis in their rotation will provide the C's with a low-post threat. Jayson Tatum, Gordon Hayward, Terry Rozier and the rest of the gang will be more than happy to play alongside "Unibrow" if and when they can reach a deal.
The New York Knicks is another team that can entice Davis. It's been said that they will have the number 1 pick in the upcoming Lottery Draft. This could mean that Zion Williamson will be representing Madison Square Garden. As for the Pelicans, they were caught saying that they would "love" to trade Davis for Zion provided that the Knicks have the number 1 pick.
Sources are now pointing that the Knicks can go all-out this summer to get Davis. According to Fansided's Nolan Jensen, New York can trade Kevin Knox, Mitchell Robinson and three future first-round picks to New Orleans in exchange for Davis and Solomon Hill.
The article said that the Knicks "may be wary" to trade Robinson, who finished second in blocks per game. This perception, however, can change if the Knicks really want someone of Davis' caliber playing for them.
There is also a rumor that New York is trying to get Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. Signing Davis ahead of Durant and Irving in exchange for Zion and the above-mentioned players will turn heads and make for a good debate. The Knicks - any team, in fact - wants to be a contender. Having three of the league's premier players and MVP candidates at any given time will definitely boost the team's morale. And of course, it's not every day that you can see "Durantula," "Uncle Drew" and the "Unibrow" playing together.
