Lonzo Ball made headlines recently, particularly that rumored trade involving the Chicago Bulls. With the Los Angeles Lakers expected to have a revamp at the helm, there is a possibility that the former second overall pick of the 2017 NBA Draft may once again be linked to trade talk with the Windy City squad.
The rumor surrounding Ball came out from an article on the Chicago Sun Times way before the February NBA trade deadline. At the time, Chicago was one of two potent destinations the Ball camp was interested in. The other was New York City (Knicks).
Nothing really transpired with most of the attention on the botched Anthony Davis trade. Ironically, Ball was also part of the multiplayer offer of the Lakers, albeit the surfacing of preference by the former UCLA Bruin to join the Bulls or the Knicks. But would Ball be ideal for the Windy City?
That is one of the brewing questions to date and something that may possibly crop up once more in the NBA offseason. With Earvin Johnson and Luke Walton out of the picture, the place of Ball in the next Lakers system hinges a lot on the next team president and head coach. As of this writing, there is no word on who will replace Johnson and/or Walton.
Should a trade between the Lakers and Bulls be revived, there is the question of who would be involved. The Bulls do have a lot of talented stars on its end. The list includes Zach LaVine, Wendell Carter Jr. and Lauri Markannen. Denzel Valentine, Chandlier Hutchinson and/or Kris Dunn could also be tossed in the mix, Pippen Ainn't Easy said.
Ball has proven to be an asset for the Lakers so it seems hard to imagine the Lakers trading him away. His shooting has been criticized ever so often but it remains that he is one of the reliable quarterback the NBA has to date.
Likewise intriguing is how Ball can perform under Jim Boylen. The mentor has not exactly been a hit with his players and Ball is more likely to raise a howl as well. There is no word as well on whether Boylen will be replaced.
If he does move, Ball could be the latest former Laker to blossom. D’Angelo Russell was once touted to be the next big guard in the pro ranks and all that happened when he ended up with the Brooklyn Nets.
Ball could do the same with the Bulls although there are plenty of precedents to fulfil. Could that be happening this summer?
