The expectations are high now that The Crown Season 3 is about to hit the small screen with new cast members, as the show may feature a different era. The new season is said to explore Queen Elizabeth II's reign from 1964 to 1976, so fans can expect to see new faces again.
The historical drama's previous two seasons have covered Queen Elizabeth's life from 1947 to 1963. So, there are strong assumptions The Crown Season 3 will move forward from then.
Although showrunner Peter Morgan has yet to give any details about The Crown Season 3, according to Radio Times, it may feature the Queen's "steadiest relationship" with the yet-to-be Prime Minister Harold Wilson. At the time, he was only the head of the British government.
In The Crown Season 3, Olivia Colman will get Queen Elizabeth's role from Claire Foy. As the 35-year-old actress won the Emmy's best actress award for playing the monarch's character, the expectations are high for the Broadchurch actress' portrayal.
Tobias Menzies, who would play as Prince Philip, revealed The Crown Season 3 would feature the Apollo 11 moon landing, and how the Duke of Edinburgh would react to it. "We've just been shooting a really interesting episode which was all tied into the moon landings in '69," he said. He continued to say Prince Philip got absorbed in this side of heroism of the men in the moon compared to what might be he hadn't done with his life.
Producer Suzanne Mackie, on the other hand, said The Crown Season 3 would also feature the introduction of Prince Charles' second wife, Camilla Parker-Bowles. It would also cover the decolonization of Africa and the Caribbean, Prince Edward's birth, and the Prince of Wales' movement into the public eyes after his coronation in 1969.
Meanwhile, in Netflix's letter to investors, the streaming network announced The Crown Season 3 possible release date, per Deadline. Although the platform didn't reveal when the show would exactly be out, it is believed to premiere sometime after July 1.
The Crown Season 3 is said to start in the second half of the year, when other Netflix shows like Stranger Things, 13 Reasons Why, and Orange is the New Black will be released. There are theories the new season will be revealed the same time the previous seasons were unveiled.
To recall, Season 1 was out in November, while Season 2 was released in December. So fans might see The Crown Season 3 hitting the small screens in the last quarter of the year.
