Viewers should brace themselves for another terrifying hauntings and demonic possession as work is now underway on The Conjuring 3. Here's everything there is to know about the next installment, including the release date, cast members and plot details.

The build-up to The Conjuring 3 started in 2016 when director James Wan said that the next installment in the series would take place during the late 1980. Based on a true events, the story will heavily revolve around a legal trial where the defendant, Bill Ramsey (also known as The Southend Werewolf), claimed to have been possessed during the crimes of which he was accused.

Bill Ramsey claimed he was possessed by an evil wolf-spirit when he assaulted several people. Hence, the real Ed and Lorraine Warren flew all the way to London to convince him to undergo an exorcism with the help of Bishop Robert McKenna of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church.

"It's this guy who was on trial for committing a murder," director James Wan, who helmed 2013's The Conjuring and 2016's The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Case, said in an interview with ComingSoon.net when asked about the next installment's plot. "I think it's the first time in America's history where the defendant used possessions as a reason, as an excuse," he added.

The Conjuring 3 will be directed by Michael Chaves, who helmed the recently released supernatural horror film The Curse of La Llorona, while the script will be penned by The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Case's screenwriter David Leslie Johnson. Peter Safran and James Wan's Atomic Monster Production Company serve as producers.

As for the cast, it has been confirmed that actors Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga will respectively return as paranormal investigators and authors, Ed Warren and Lorraine Warren in The Conjuring 3. Fans could also expect to see actress Sterling Jerins again as the Warrens' daughter, Judy Warren.

The third installment will open in theaters across United States on Sept. 11, 2020. While there is still a long wait, the spin-off Annabelle Comes Home will be released on June 28 by Warner Bros.
