Britney Spears breaks her self-imposed hiatus to address rumors on her mental health with an Instagram video post.
The 37-year-old singer had voluntarily entered a facility to help her cope with what was happening with her father's health. However, rumors had started to circulate on how she was being treated as a prisoner at the mental health facility where she had checked in.
Then a movement on social media which has come to be known as the "#FREEBRITNEY PROTEST" came out and threatened to spin out of control. It had even gone as far as to have the "Baby One More Time" singer's family to be in a precarious situation of facing the backlash.
Because things were going overboard, the "Ooops! I Did It Again" performer was forced to break her "indefinite hiatus" to address the situation.
In her Instagram video, Spears went to the heart of the matter saying that there were things that were being said of her which have "gotten out of control," referring to the "rumors" and the "crazy things" happening.
She was referring to the death threats that her "family" as well as her "team" were receiving. The young artist explained that she was taking "a moment" for herself but that the things getting out of hand were only making it "harder" for her.
Spears advised her fans and followers not to jump to conclusions believing "everything" that they "read and hear." The actress then referred to the "fake emails" which she explained were "crafted by Sam Lufti" some time back. She belied reports that those were written by her.
Lufti was Spears' former manager, and the singer accused him in her video of "pretending" to be her, sending emails to the members of her team, using a "fake email address."
She went on to say in her post that what she was going through was a "unique" circumstance but assured her fans that what she was doing was the "best" for her "at this moment."
Spears assured her fans that she was the kind of person who stood up for what she wanted. But she confessed that, "right now," what she needed was a "bit of privacy," despite recognizing that the "love and dedication" from her fans was "amazing."
The Mississippi native expressed her need for "privacy" at the moment in order to manage all the "hard things" going on in her life. She asked her followers for the space and respect, which she confessed, she would be "forever grateful" for.
She promised her fans she would "be back very soon."
