Gabrielle Union's Mary Jane (MJ) finally got her happy ending in Being Mary Jane on BET. The network recently aired its two-hour movie conclusion after announcing in 2017 that the series will no longer be back for season 5.
According to Deadline, the Being Mary Jane finale movie started off with MJ's pregnancy as revealed in season 4 two years ago. MJ, however, had to deal with this alone since her fiance, Justin (played by Michael Ealy), bailed on her.
But MJ quickly found new love in Beau (played by Morris Chestnut), who was actually there when she gave birth to her baby. Unknown to Justin, MJ's pregnancy was through a sperm donor. Was it too late for him to realize what he missed?
Justin soon bonded with MJ's son just as Beau was ready to pop the question and marry her. The moment sped up to her wedding day to finally reveal that MJ wanted to be with Justin all along. She exchanged "I do's" with her ultimate love, which Oprah Magazine described as the cheesy rom-com the fans deserved.
BET gave Being Mary Jane the happy ending after four seasons of love and loss. The network has no more plans to continue with season 5.
Union issued a statement following the show's cancellation via her Instagram. She thanked the people she worked with on Being Mary Jane and also acknowledged the fans who have faithfully watched the series for four years.
Initially, BET was supposed to air the finale episode of Being Mary Jane in 2018 but the air date underwent two switches on the network.
Meanwhile, despite how much fans clamor for the show's return, Being Mary Jane season 5 is definitely no longer happening since Union has also landed a new TV show so soon after BET canceled her romantic series. The actress has been filming L.A.'s Finest for NBC.
The show is a spinoff of Will Smith and Martin Lawrence's movie Bad Boys and Union will play Syd Burnett, the same police character she played in the film. L.A's Finest will begin airing in May and will also star Jessica Alba, Ernie Hudson, Zach Gilford, Duane Martin, Ryan McPartlin, Zach McGowan and Sophie Reynolds.
