The New York Knicks is the talk of the NBA town as of late because of a couple of reasons. One is that they have the highest chance to land the No. 1 pick this summer. The other is that the team is setting its eyes on some of the league's premier player. If these are the cases New York has in mind, Knicks fans can see a bright future and a new championship banner hanging from the rafters.
Rumor has it that the Knicks is planning to sign Kevin Durant when the Warriors swingman becomes a free agent this summer. Although New York is not the only team who is interested in KD, they are among the frontrunners. Kyrie Irving is another potential acquisition, but it's going to be a tough road for the Knicks to sign "Uncle Drew."
New York can also have the No. 1 draft pick in the Draft Lottery. One particular name that stands out is Zion Williamson. The Duke Blue Devil is considered to be a top prospect, but the likes of Ja Morant and teammate RJ Barret are looking good to be overlooked.
I asked Melo if he would want to re-join the Knicks if KD signs there.
‘I gotta see what’s going on,’ he said with a smile. https://t.co/ou2KPfaH84 — Adam Zagoria (@AdamZagoria) April 28, 2019
If ever the Knicks get first dibs in the Draft, the New Orleans Pelicans "would love to trade" Anthony Davis in exchange for whoever they get, but the target so far is Williamson. Again, it's not hard to imagine AD, Durant, and Irving joining forces as the next proverbial "super team."
It's not over yet, though. Word on the street is now pointing on Carmelo Anthony re-joining his former team. SNY.TV caught Anthony at the Nike EYBL where he was asked if he "would want to re-join the Knicks" if the team acquires KD. Melos simply said, "I gotta see what's going." It's not that big of an expose, but it's hinting that there's a possibility.
One website, however, is not particular on Melo re-signing with the Knicks. They said that "it's hard to imagine" how Anthony, who is turning 35 next month, will be of meaningful help. On the other hand, if "Durantula" and "Uncle Drew" wants "Melo" on their side, then it would be "wise" for New York to consider this idea.
Be that as it may, Melo can still contribute in his own way. He averaged around 25ppg during his stay with New York. A veteran role - if he's up to it - will have him come off the bench or as SNY puts it, a "mentor" to the team's young guns. Jalen Rose said that Melo can still contribute, but finding the "right opportunity" will be tough.
