Is Parks and Recreation getting a season 8? There are talks that a revival may be in the works four years after the series ended its run on NBC. The buzz even grew louder after the cast and crew recently had a reunion at the Paley Festival in New York to celebrate the show's 10th anniversary.
Star Amy Poehler (as Leslie Knope) revealed that she's eager to work on a Parks and Recreation season 8 if executive producer Mike Schur is also on board. However, Schur is currently juggling several projects that he might not have time and energy to work on the show's revival.
"Mike Schur is currently working on about five shows," Poehler told Variety in March 2019. "Whenever Mike is ready, I'll put on my suit again for sure."
If doing a Parks and Recreation season 8 will not be possible. However, there have also been suggestions to do a movie treatment of the series. But Schur expressed that the only way he could be compelled to do a Parks and Recreationrevival would be if there were an incredible reason for it. However, he's not completely closing the doors on this despite the slim chances of a revival because of one reason.
"It felt like the most important thing that I would ever do. And so I would never ever say never," Schur said, as per Entertainment Weekly.
From the writers and creators of The Office, Parks and Recreation premiered on NBC in 2009. Its main premise was about a local government agency tasked to oversee the development and upkeep of the parks and recreation areas in an Indiana town.
Aside from Poehler, the series also starred Aziz Ansari, Nick Offerman, Rashida Jones, Aubrey Plaza, Adam Scott, Rob Lowe, Paul Schneider, Jerry Gergich, Billy Eichner and Retta. Chris Pratt was also part of this series before he became a major movie star.
The show followed the lighter side of working in a government agency. It was a political satire that also featured real-life politicians in their most unguarded moments, such former Vice President Joe Biden, former First Lady Michelle Obama and the late Senator John McCain.
Parks and Recreation started unevenly that Poehler's character had to be tweaked. Viewers didn't want her to come off negatively in the same way that Steve Carrell's Michael Scott from The Office was portrayed.
The succeeding seasons of Parks and Recreation saw an increase in viewers as well as critical praises. By 2011, it has been tagged as one of the smartest comedies on American television.
