Judging by the truckload of fan-made theories, leaks and rumors, we can already see what the Pocophone 2 would be. But as far as anything else is concerned, Xiaomi is pacing itself to continue the legacy of the Pocophone 1 as a surprise entry in the budget Smartphone line.
The first iteration did its part to entertain a new wave of users with its near flagship specs, and now it is the turn of the Pocophone 2 to make things better. One particular speculation comes from Weibo, a Chinese based social media site. It said that Xiaomi's product director, Wang Teng, hinted that the Pocophone might have a pop-up camera.
This was followed by a flurry of Tweets, including one from @MishaalRahman who relayed XDA Developers' Francesco Tescari's claim that he found some "references" of a pop-up selfie. The former added that Xiaomi is "testing a shell command" that "executes a motor test" to "pop and push" the camera.
Xiaomi is testing a shell command that executes a motor test and logs a "pop" and "push" camera command in logcat. The code further reveals a "camera button" that is pushed. The test is only for davinci's front camera. — Mishaal Rahman (@MishaalRahman) March 21, 2019
Furthermore, Rahman pointed that the test was made for an unknown device codenamed "davinci." Franztesca on the other hand has spotted another device with a "Raphael" codename. The device, the leaker added, will also be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 855 chip, and that "davinci" and "Raphael" will both come with an in-display optical fingerprint scanner.
Moving forward, there are also those who believe that the Pocophone 2 will have "flagship" specifications. One source posted @Sudhanshu1414's Tweet last month, saying that the upcoming Pocophone will incorporate a 6.39inch AMOLED display screen with 1080x2340ppi, a massive 4,000mAh battery and "glass body."
The Tweet also has it that the Pocophone 2 will be lathered with Corning Gorilla Glass 6 to protect it from nicks and scratches, the aforementioned optical fingerprint scanner and 6GB RAM. Of course, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 was also mentioned.
POCO F1 has not officially launched in China, & according to recent reports Redmi with SD855 is coming in May & POCO F2 will come in April-May. So is POCO F2 = Redmi with SD855?#Xiaomi #Redmi #POCOPHONEF2 pic.twitter.com/xHD0S4kxM7 — Sudhanshu Ambhore (@Sudhanshu1414) March 23, 2019
On the other hand, there are those that believe that if they "guided by possible rumors," the Pocophone 2 will also sport three photographic rear sensors and a front-facing pop-up cam "of no less than 32megapixels." It did, however, upped the supposed RAM of the Pocophone 2 to 8GB and added a 128GB onboard memory.
@Sudhanshu1414 also has a previous Tweet that sees a 48megapixel sensor courtesy of Sony, a 13megapixel ultra-wide lens and an 8megapixel telephoto sensor at the back. Redmi's official Weibo page also shared a snippet of their Avengers: Endgame inspired vid that clearly displayed the Pocophone 2's pop-up camera.
Again, call it a new Redmi or the Pocophone 2, it doesn't matter. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 device is nearly here, and it is only a matter of time before we can get our hands on it.
