Amazon already confirmed there would be Homecoming season 2 and it will be directed by Sam Esmail, with creators Micah Bloomberg and Eli Horowitz penning once again the teleplay. So now, here are the latest news and updates about the second installment, particularly its release date, cast, and plot.
Homecoming is a thriller series based on a hit podcast of the same name, and when Amazon first ordered the show, the deal reportedly includes the second season. But then, while Homecoming season 2 has been confirmed, the release date was not yet revealed.
But if we based it in the 2018 production schedule, fans can probably expect the arrival of the series this fall 2019. It can be noted the first season started filming in February 2018, and then it premiered nine months later. So if the second installment would follow this timeline, fans can expect the series to premiere later this year.
Back in January, reports confirmed Julia Roberts would not be coming back in the second season. The actress portrays the lead role, Heidi Bergman, so Esmail and series creators will reportedly "deviate" from the original podcast narrative. In a previous interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he said they're already working on Homecoming season 2.
Esmail added they have a very "different trajectory" for the series, which is not a surprise for some. It's not clear who will be the lead star of the series now. But although Roberts will not reprise her role, she reportedly remains on board as an executive producer.
Meanwhile, in the official IMDb page of Homecoming, Chelsea Wallace is the only one listed as the season 2 cast. But other cast members expected to return include Jeremy Allen White (veteran Shrier), Hong Chau (Audrey Temple), Dermot Mulroney (Anthony), Marianne Jean-Baptiste as (Gloria Cruz), Sissy Spacek (Ellen Bergman).
Also, Alex Karpovsky (Craig), Shea Whigham (Thomas Carrasco), Bobby Cannavale (Colin Belfast), and Stephan James (Walter) are also expected to reprise their role in the second installment. Meanwhile, the plot of Homecoming season 2 is still unknown, especially since Roberts wouldn't be back as the lead role, so it's hard to predict how the story will continue.
However, there were rumors that the second season will follow the next shady business venture of Geist, as well as the ascension of Audrey Temple and Thomas Carrasco's further investigations. It's just reasonable the upcoming installment will focus on the supporting characters, especially now that Heidi is gone.
