Two years in a row now, it was made obvious that the First Lady Melania is clearly not foremost among the things that mattered to the United States President. For on the day reserved for mothers, Donald Trump forgot to greet his wife once more.

Instead, it was the First Lady of the United States who posted a Mother's Day greeting on social media early in the day as well as who shared a tribute for the "unmatched sacrifices" that America's mothers have been giving.

The First Lady tweeted a simple message for the occasion. Then extended recognition by retweeting the official Mother's Day message from the White House. Melania offered her greetings for "every day" to "our mothers," saying it was a time to let them "know and feel" the gratitude for their "gift of life" as well as the countless "sacrifices" they have given for "our families" and the "nation."

Trump, on his part, showed how much he cared Sunday by beginning his day directing tweets toward issues as the Spygate and Fox Network's Lou Dobbs. Then, after placing attention on those things that mattered most to him, he remembered the occasion later in the day and tweeted a generic Mother's Day message "From President Donald J. Trump."

However, his glaring omission of Melania's name or any special message directed to her was noted by Twitter users, who were wondering where his wife's shout-out was. While the rest of social media offered Mother's Day greetings to the First Lady, many could not help but criticize the president for his lapse.

One Twitter user pointed out "after seven hours" of tweeting and "hundreds of reminders" that the president "finally" remembered but came up with just a photo of flowers without any "personal" note to his wife.

Another commented on the thread of Trump's Mother's Day post that it was hard to take the message "seriously," adding that the president "hardly" ever talked of Melania, only "occasionally" acknowledging her during White House "events" and rarely even mentioning their son.

This obvious slip gave a reason for Twitter users to compare Trump with the former POTUS Barack Obama, who not just remembered the special person Sunday's occasion was earmarked for, but also expressed his deep affection for that woman.

Obama greeted his wife, Michelle, calling her the "most caring" as well as "brilliant and funny" and of course "grounded" woman he knew. He also referred to his wife as the "perfect role model" for his children and "so many others."

There was no word on how the President and the First Lady planned to spend that day, but there had been a tribute to military spouses Friday celebrated at the White House, dubbed the Military Spouse Appreciation Day, but nothing had been forthcoming about Sunday's occasion.

Twitter user Barry Lipitz (@expoball) dealt sarcasm in reply to Trump's impersonal Mother's Day message, tweeting "Give love to Malania," referencing a careless tweet in the past made the president where he misspelled the First Lady's first name, "Melanie."

That was last year after Melania had a kidney procedure.
