It was already confirmed that Castle Rock season 2 will be arriving on Hulu, though the release date was not yet revealed. The series is based on Stephen King anthology and the story of the second installment shifts its focus on the origin story of Annie Wilkes. And while the release date remains unpredicted, latest reports confirmed Greg Yaitanes would be directing the premiere episode of the second season.

In an interview with IndieWire, Yaitanes revealed he's directing the first episode of Castle Rock season 2, and he'll direct another one later. He said that co-creator Dusty Thomason pitched him an idea about the departure episode later in the season which is too "enticing" to say no.

It can be noted that Yaitanes directed Castle Rock season 1 episode 7, titled "The Queen," and he said the team learned so much on how that entry connected with the viewers. He said directing that particular episode was a "career high" and said he's a "Stephen King nerd."

For Yaitanes, directing the premiere episode of Castle Rock season 2 is a dream come true, and he's happy to launch the new season, along with the new cast and a new story. He's also happy to be able to geek out and be responsible for the origin story of Annie Wilkes.

The shooting of the first episode reportedly finished earlier this month, and Yaitanes revealed the second season would take place "on the heels" on the first season. That means pre-existing characters might appear, although none of the cast members confirmed they'd be returning in the upcoming season.

The director also teased viewers will be seeing more of Castle Rock this year than they did last year. It is set back in the town so that fans will see familiar places, but they will also go on new places that the story didn't touch on. Yaitanes hints that Castle Rock season 2 has a "lot of story" to dig - including more King-centric Easter Eggs.

Meanwhile, as mentioned earlier, the release date of the new season was not yet revealed. But, some reports suggest the second installment will likely arrive exclusively on Hulu between July-September 2019.

Lizzy Caplan will be playing the role of Annie Wilkes; the actress is the younger and more stable version of the character who has been battling to overcome her mental health issues. Other cast members joining Caplan in Castle Rock season 2 include Tim Robbins, Elsie Fisher, Garrett Hedlund, Yusra Warsama, Barkhad Abdi, and Matthew Alan.
