Filming has finally started for The Walking Dead season 10 with much of the old cast no longer on the show. There are speculations, however, that Lauren Cohan (as Maggie) might return now that she has no more commitments to Whisky Cavalier.
The actress left the series before the start of The Walking Dead season 9 to star in her new show on ABC with Scott Foley. However, Whisky Cavalier was recently confirmed as scrapped from the network's slate of shows next season thus Cohan has a free schedule on her hands.
Cohan said in a radio interview with Entertainment Weekly that Maggie is still very much part of The Walking Dead universe despite her absence in season 9. She confirmed that she would be back in the series at some point once the writers have figured out how to re-introduce her.
Fans may recall that Maggie and her son moved to a new community to help with its rehabilitation. The other characters on The Walking Dead have hinted bits and pieces of Maggie's existence as she continued to keep in touch with the survivors at Hilltop.
"It's not over [for Maggie]," Cohan said in the interview. "So, for me, that's exciting. And I get so excited because we talk about different possibilities."
Meanwhile, one other actor on The Walking Dead has lamented about not returning to the series in the new season. Tom Payne (as Jesus) hinted on Twitter that the show could have explored so much more of his character because his storyline was richer in the graphic novels.
Jesus was killed off in The Walking Dead season 9 midseason finale. In the books, however, Jesus had a bigger storyline involving his blossoming relationship with Aaron (played by Ross Marquand).
"I wish they would have built his character up like the comics," the actor said in response to a fan's question on the social media platform. However, Payne also said that his time on The Walking Dead was "awesome while it lasted."
Meanwhile, filming for The Walking Dead season 10 officially started in the first week of May. The cast and crew have been sharing photos on the set to tease the start of production. The show is projected to begin airing the new season sometime in October on AMC.
