Rumors recently emerged that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be the final installment of the franchise to feature the superhero team together. Many also speculated that the movie would also highlight the development of Rocket's character.
A 4Chan thread previously made headlines as it reportedly contains plot details and updates regarding the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 4, wherein Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is included. Reportedly, the upcoming movie will be the final installment, and fans will be seeing Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper, Peter (Chris Pratt), Mantis (Pom Klementieff), Nebula (Karen Gillan), Groot (Vin Diesel), and Drax (Dave Bautista) together for the last time.
If ever this rumor is true, it is very likely fans will only see the characters in other upcoming MCU movies. A source also claimed that Pratt reportedly signed contracts to do several films for the MCU after Avengers: Endgame.
Meanwhile, in the second movie, Rocket struggled in processing his emotions, as well as in adjusting as part of a team. He also learned some of the lessons he needed for Yondu (Michael Rooker), who died in the sequel later on.
Now, many speculated that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 would focus on the development of Rocket's character and possibly revealed something about his past. Some also suggest that since the upcoming movie might be the final installment, he will sacrifice himself just to save the Guardians.
Also, the same information leaked also noted that the team might fight the High Evolutionary in the third movie. The next villain will reportedly be Rocket's maker, so it could likely dig deeper into his past - possibly the same way as Peter's identity was explored in the second movie.
James Gunn directed the first and second movie, but Marvel fired him last lead after his old and controversial tweets resurfaced. In a recent interview with Deadline, however, he revealed that the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 would probably use the script he wrote before he lost his job.
Gunn revealed that Rocket's arc started in the first movie, and then it continued in the second until Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. He said that he was supposed to finish the arc in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. He added it was a "big loss" to him not being able to finish the story, but he was comforted by the fact they're planning to use his script.
