With Samsung and Huawei have already introduced their own foldable smartphones, and Apple recently patented folding phones, Sony may be the next company to introduce their folding smartphone, which may already have the name Xperia F, with the letter representing the word foldable.

Although there is still no foldable mobile phone available for sale, mostly due to the delay of the Galaxy Fold due to breaking issues, many companies are developing it, or intend to do so. And now it seems we can add Sony to that list.

According to a report from a Chinese website, Sony would enter that world of foldable phones with the Sony Xperia F and would combine common features of Sony phones with other futuristic ideas unknown at the moment.

The Xperia F is said to have an aspect ratio of 21: 9, like the most recent smartphone of the Japanese company, the Xperia 1. This suggests that it would be designed for the transmission of content such as movies, which many 21: 9 phones do.

If the source is correct the idea of the device will come closer to the concept of the Motorola Razor device than that of Samsung Galaxy Fold and Mate X of Huawei. The idea is that it gets smaller in the pocket and that despite lengthening the screen, it would not be the same size as a tablet.

There are two main ways that companies are presenting to the foldable smartphone models. The first is to open the device as a book, that is in the horizontal position, this is the way that most manufacturers are presenting. The second is to make the smartphone fold in half upright, just like the flip phones which the Sony Xperia F might do.

We're not sure if it would retain the Ultra HD resolution of Xperia 1, but rumors hold that the device could come with support for 5G connectivity, which is not a surprise since the phone would come out next year, when 5G phones are already the order of the day, but until now we had not heard that Sony I was working on one.

The Sony has not yet ruled on the information disclosed by the site and not confirmed if it is really working on a folding device. The truth is that Sony should be prudent and leave everything very well tied before the arrival of its Sony foldable phone.

The Japanese firm is not going through its best moment. During 2018, it lost 800 million dollars, remaining far behind rivals such as Samsung or Apple. In addition, last April it announced its withdrawal from the Middle East, South, and Central America because of these poor economic results. As if these were not enough, in April it was also revealed that the company would halve its workforce dedicated to the manufacture of mobile phones.

If the Xperia F is a sufficiently attractive mobile, it could be the device that gave new life to the company.
