Chicago Fire season 8 will not air until the fall of 2019 on NBC. However, co-creator Derek Haas recently gave an update on the start of production.

In a post on Twitter, Haas confirmed that filming for Chicago Fire season 8 would start by mid-July in the Windy City. There isn't anything ordinary about this schedule since most shows do go back to production in the middle of summer to have new episodes ready by the fall season.

What's uncertain, however, is who will be coming back on Chicago Fire season 8 after that catastrophic season 7 finale? The producers haven't made any announcements regarding any casting changes so far since the cast and crew are still likely enjoying their downtimes.

Viewers will recall, however, that the Chicago Fire season 7 finale saw the romance between Brett (played by Kara Killmer) and Casey (played by Jesse Spencer) abruptly ending before it could even start. The show teased the spark between them all season long only for Brett to say yes to a surprise marriage proposal from Kyle (played by Teddy Spears).

Severide (played by Taylor Kinney) and Stella (played by Miranda Rae Mayo), on the other hand, finally confessed they have feelings for each other in the Chicago Fire season 7 finale. Their spark developed because they were closely working on an old case for a few episodes.

Their happy and sweet moment, however, was short-lived because everyone was called to a fire at a nearby factory a few moments later. Casey, Severide and the rest of the team pulled their muscles and got to work to rescue the workers.

Then, Severide found out that a group was still trapped in a locker room at the basement. While half the firehouse was down there, Chicago Fire season 7 ended with a cliffhanger to suggest that the factory was about to explode with most of Firehouse 51 under it.

But it might be safe to speculate that Casey and Severide will still be around for Chicago Fire season 8. Spencer and Kinney, after all, scored a new deal and a salary bump in their contracts with NBC to continue working on the show for another season, as per Deadline.

Chicago Fire season 8 will still air every Wednesday at 9:00 p.m. this fall, as per TV Guide. The network is expected to announce its premiere date sometime in August.
