U.S. First Lady Melania Trump delivers Donald Trump from a social gaffe when he forgets his gift to Queen Elizabeth.
The FLOTUS did what any good wife would do and delivered the President from an awkward moment. When the Queen showed the U.S. President a horse statue the latter was supposed to have gifted her, Donald looked somewhat bewildered. Good thing Melania was quick to make a save by mentioning that the figurine was his gift to the British monarch some time back.
The President did not know or remember the statuette. When the Queen specifically asked him if he recognized it, he responded in the negative. This tale, which was seen by some as a point for hilarity, was shared on social media by Royal correspondent to The Sun, Emily Andrews.
One Twitter user pointed out that the incident is not anything different from other wedded couples all over the world. The same user attempted to explain the situation, saying "wife picks gift" that the couple gives but the "husband" does not "pay attention." It was a situation, the tweet postulated, common among "married couples."
Another Twitter user shared a criticism regarding how "absurd" it was that the American "taxpayers" are paying for "stuff" for the Royal family, which they do not "need." "Our money," this same tweet declared, should be utilized for "more important" expenses.
The talked about gift horse was a courtesy which the Trumps had made a present of to the Queen during their last trip to the United Kingdom almost a year ago. The plaque on it read "American Pewter Thoroughbred" which was for "Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II" from the President of the United States Donald Trump and Mrs. Melania Trump. It was dated July 13, 2018.
The Trumps arrived Monday to heralding gun salutes at the Tower of London as well as Green Park as they were welcomed to the Buckingham Palace. This is the first Trump state visit to the U.K. and will take three days, from June 3 to 5. The President's daughter, Ivanka Trump, and her husband, Jared Kushner, are part of the delegation and are expected to be in attendance in the upcoming events.
The President and the First Lady have already had their meeting with Prince Charles, the Duke of Cornwall, and his wife, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall. The first couple has also had lunch with the Queen and Prince Harry.
Also along for the trip are the President's children, with the exception of his and Melania's son, Barron. In attendance are Eric Trump and Donald Trump, Jr., as well as Tiffany Trump.
