Tesla Model 3 owners can now enjoy the convenience of wireless phone charging as Tesla expands its range of phone accessories with an official Qi wireless phone charging pad for the Tesla Model 3. The charger is available to buy online today at a premium price of $125.
Wireless charging in the car is finally becoming more popular, after a period when manufacturers seemed to have lost interest in this technology, and then surviving and finally getting back to the market, thanks to Apple's wireless charging campaign two years ago. Now Tesla is riding the trend as they launched their official QI wireless charger.
The new wireless charger accessory for the Tesla Model 3 is Qi, so it is compatible with the vast majority of mobile phones that allow wireless charging currently such as those of Samsung, Apple, Sony, Huawei, and others. The installation of this, according to the company announcement is really simple and without any danger to the driver or the vehicle.
The new product of the company led by Elon Musk comes with a design that allows it to fit perfectly into the central space vehicle chassis that is in the front of the Tesla Model 3, so it does not mess up the interior design of the car. It has a non-slip silicone finish which prevents the phones from slipping no matter where the Tesla Model 3, even if it is going into a rough road or an icy one. An important detail is that the small element that extends beyond the lower area of the accessory allows the driver to be sure of the stability of the smartphones that are used and, also, that the contact with the recharge coil is always adequate.
One of the key advantages is that the Tesla Qi wireless phone charger can charge up to two smartphones simultaneously by simply placing them in the center console. This is achieved because the charger includes two USB cables to provide sufficient power in each place where smartphones are placed to be charged.
As you would expect from Tesla, the wireless charger isn't cheap. It comes at a premium price of $125, the same cost as buying two motorized wireless chargers, as the average cost of wireless chargers in the market if $40 to $50 only, or even going back to your house or stopping at a convenience store to charge your phone.
Aside from the price, the only other drawback is the location itself, which causes the smartphone to be completely out of the driver's field of vision. And may cause further distractions if the driver looks at it to see anything.
Tesla Q1 wireless charger is now for sale in the company's online store, and the units are reportedly running out very quickly.
