There's a big possibility Tacoma FD season 2 could return on TruTV. The comedy series about a fictional fire unit recently finished its first season run and one of its co-creators is confident that the show will score a renewal.

In an interview on Kiro7co-creator Kevin Heffernan shared that Tacoma FD season 2 seems to be shaping up. Ratings for the show rose to 5.5 million viewers on its initial run, which was sustained every week for 10 episodes. It is also the most watched program on the cable channel for viewers in the 18 to 34 age group.

"The numbers of the first season were fantastic, and everyone is super happy about it," Heffernan stated. "It would be hard not to renew a hit."

Heffernan and Steve Lemme, who both worked on the Super Trooper movies, came up with the concept for Tacoma FD while doing the stand-up circuit at the Tacoma Comedy Club. Apparently, 60 percent of their audience was composed of cops, firefighters and first responders looking to relax after a day of hard work.

It occurred to the comedy writing duo to wonder about what firemen do in one of the rainiest cities in America. Thus, they explored the story of these local folks and came up with a goldmine of a comedy series.

Now, it is these very people that have embraced Tacoma FD on the cable channel. Some of the plots on the show were actually shared stories from their audience. Heffernan also has a cousin who serves as a fire department official who would sometimes tell him of stories and anecdotes about his group.

Aside from Hefferman and Lemme in the lead roles as Chief Terry McConky and Captain Eddie Penis, Tacoma FD also stars Marcus Henderson (as Granny Smith), Eugene Cordero (as Andy Myawani), Gabriel Hogan (as Ike Crystal) and Hassie Harrison (as Lucky McConky). It's likely that the same cast will be back for Tacoma FD season 2. The only thing missing now is a confirmed announcement from TruTV.

The network signed on Hefferman and Lemme to develop Tacoma FD in early 2018. Five months later, the show went into production for the first season and by February 2019, TruTV confirmed the series premiere for March.

"When we pitched the show, we promised they'd battle one fire a season," Hefferman told StarTribune."That happens in the season finale at a weed dispensary."
