Poldark season 5 has completed production sometime in February, and while this is going to be the series' final run, fans cannot wait to watch the new episodes. However, there hasn't been any announcements regarding the premiere date of Poldark season 5 on BBC or PBS, but viewers in the U.K. will most likely get to watch the show a few months ahead of the U.S. broadcast.
As it has been happening in Poldark for the last four seasons, BBC usually airs the latest episodes first than PBS. This format is not expected to change with Poldark season 5, but speculations suggest that the show's final season could begin in July 2019 in the U.K. The U.S. airing of Poldark season 5, on the other hand, might start sometime in the fall.
Poldark season 5 is projected to follow the stories from the book, "The Stranger from the Sea," which was written by Winston Graham for the Poldark series. According to Radio Times, this will kick the story's timeline by at least a decade. This means that the show's stars, Aidan Turner (as Ross Poldark) and Eleanor Tomlinson, (as Demelza Poldark) would have to be considerably aged with makeup or CGI.
Then again, Poldark season 5 writer Debbie Horsfield said that the show would diverge from the books. Horsfield said that the series will delve into the stories that were not covered in the printed sources, particularly that 10-year gap where a lot of integral events in history still happened. Actor Pip Torrens (as Cary Warleggan) also said that the show has indeed ventured into a different storyline for Poldark season 5.
"So Debbie has written it all herself with the approval of the estate, and it's fantastic the way she's just tweaked it all over in ways which will make it even more appealing," Torrens said, as per Daily Express. "I think it will be very rewarding for viewers."
Poldark season 5 might be the end of the show's run on BBC. However, fans of the stories are hopeful a second iteration will come shortly. After all, Graham wrote 12 books about the story of Ross Poldark and his family, and at least five of these books have not yet been adapted for TV.
The BBC drama started airing on March 2015 in the U.K. In the U.S., the show became part of its Masterpiece anthology on PBS.
