The state lawsuit was filed in September 2018 in Nevada accusing Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo of rape has been dropped. But, according to the lawyer of the complainant, it was not dropped but was moved to federal court. It can be recalled that Kathryn Mayorga came out in 2018 with her story and claimed that the football superstar used fixers to prevent her from pursuing criminal charges.
Mayorga claimed that the Juventus star even tried to pay her a hefty sum of $375,000 to stay quiet. The complainant alleged that Ronaldo assaulted her in her room in a Las Vegas hotel in 2009. One of the complainant's lawyers, Leslie Mark Stovall, clarified that the case was not dropped but instead will be heard in federal court. This way, contact with the player will be allowed.
Larissa Drohobyczer, another lawyer of the complainant told ESPN that they were the ones who requested for the case to be dismissed. One of the reasons is because they also filed a similar claim in federal court due to the rules of the court on serving foreigners.
Drohobyczer insisted that they just switched venues but the claims still remain. Mayorga's lawyers shared that it was very difficult for them to serve papers for the state case filed against Cristiano Ronaldo because he lives in Europe. The thought is that it would be much easier to serve the papers if it is a federal case.
The Las Vegas police recently confirmed that the investigation for the case is still ongoing. Cristiano Ronaldo's lawyer Peter Christiansen, on the other hand, declined to make any comment on the case. It can be recalled that the Juventus and Portugal star vehemently denied the accusations filed against him by Mayorga.
According to Ronaldo, rape is a repulsive crime that goes against everything that he is and everything that he believes in. The football superstar added that while it is his earnest desire to clear his name of the allegations, he refused to feed the media spectacle invented by people who would like to promote their interests at his expense. Ronaldo further said that his clear conscience will allow him to wait in peace the results of the investigations if there is any.
