A recently leaked image is believed to be that of a still unknown Sony smartphone. The leaked photo features a smartphone with a triple camera configuration, a glass finish, and purple body color. As of this writing, only one Sony smartphone that sports a triple camera setup, that is the Xperia 1. This leak led many people in the tech industry to believe that this might be a new phone that Sony has yet to reveal.
What separates the leaked smartphone from the Sony Xperia 1 is that the latter has its camera module sitting on the center of its rear panel. The leaked photo shows the smartphone's camera module sitting on its upper left corner. While many dismiss this as an edited photo, some say that it is either going to be the Sony Xperia 1V or the Sony Xperia 1S.
The Sony Xperia 1 was announced earlier this year. With the smartphone market getting competitive by the day, it will come as no surprise if Sony releases a number of variants of its flagship Xperia handset. The rumored Xperia 1s and Xperia 1V are believed to be targeted towards the entry- and mid-level market range. Since the official specs of the handsets are yet to be revealed, speculations arise that they might come with a trimmed down internals of the Xperia 1.
Announced in February, the Sony Xperia 1 sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage space. As for its camera setup, it sports a triple camera module. A setup that is getting popular recently. It has a 12-megapixel main camera with f/1.6 aperture. It also has a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with f/2.4 aperture and a 12-megapixel telephoto camera with f/2.4 aperture. On the front side, it sports an 8-megapixel front-facing camera with an 84-degree wide-angle lens.
Since the rumored 1V and 1S are expected to be trimmed down versions of the flagship model, it could be possible that the two lesser variants will have smaller displays and less powerful resolutions. The Xperia 1 features a 6.5-inch OLED display that supports 4K resolution. In order to cut down the corners, the 1S and 1V might have a smaller screen, a reduced aspect ratio, and an entry-level 1080p resolution.
Rumors claim that the Sony Xperia 1S and Xperia 1V will be officially announced on July 9 in Tokyo, Japan. If the rumors are true, Sony will reveal the specs, official price, and expected release date of the handsets on the same date.
