Before 2019 draws to a close, Microsoft plans to fully roll out at least Version 1903 of Windows 10 to all compatible personal computers. There will be no exception as all systems powered by the company's flagship OS will be bumped up to the latest release, and the countdown starts this late June.
The move, according to Microsoft, is "to ensure we can continue to service these devices and provide the latest updates, security updates, and improvements." It is understood that the process to implement the plan has already commenced.
"We are now beginning to build and train the machine learning (ML) based rollout process to update devices running the April 2018 Update, and earlier versions of Windows 10," the Windows maker said.
In a report, WCCFTech said Microsoft will pull the trigger on this as early as next week "to help ensure that we keep these devices in a serviced, secure state." For those who will hold out for a few more months, it seems they can only do so until November. As indicated in the statement issued by the tech giant, the force upgrade will begin and run its course whether users like it or not.
Microsoft has yet to mention how the force upgrade of Version 1903 will play out, but it seems that the best thing to do is preempt the process. That can be done by manually installing the latest Windows 10 build through the "Update & Security" menu and then tapping "Check for updates."
Jumping to Version 1903 or installing the May 2019 Update is the better alternative anyway for users still dealing with hiccups attached with Windows 10 Version 1809, according to TechRadar. The same applies for PC owners who had elected to stick with Version 1803 if only to enjoy better stability.
However, Microsoft will soon withhold support on all Windows 10 versions save for the latest release, so it is advised to make the switch now. Or at least allow the force upgrade process to proceed to continue enjoying security protection, courtesy of Microsoft.
Still on the subject of security and other fixes, Windows 10 Versions 1803 and 1809 have recently been provided optional cumulative updates, namely KB4503288 for the April 2018 Update and KB4501371 for the October 2018 Update.
For 1803, the patch was designed to address the following: Microsoft Edge glitches, issues when scrolling in windows, and some potentially slightly odd mouse behavior on the desktop. As for 1809, the fix is meant to resolve anomalies seen with the Phone App, Windows Media Player, and other bugs.
Microsoft said the selective Windows 10 cumulative updates as the name implies are optional, but it would be wise to absorb them immediately, especially in the case of PC users who want to delay getting the May 2019 Update for as long as possible.
