A representative from YG Entertainment had previously confirmed that Seungri would be enlisting as an active duty soldier on March 25, 2019. But after his name was dragged in a controversy regarding his business ventures, the former BIGBANG star was left with no choice but to postpone the schedule of his mandatory military service.
“In order to not create any misunderstandings, even if he passes the first round, he will be withdrawing himself from the selection and enlisting as an active duty soldier,” a representative stated at the time. The postponement was set for three months and will be ending soon.
“Seungri has not applied for additional postponement of his enlistment. The postponement period will end at midnight on the 25th (June 25),” the Seoul Regional Military Manpower Administration official said. If the 28-year-old singer, songwriter, record producer, actor, entrepreneur, DJ, and creative director will not file for another postponement after his due, he will be officially enlisted and be noticed.
But even if Seungri will apply for postponement, the Seoul Regional Military Manpower Administration will have the last say to accept his request or not. If he didn’t apply or his request was not granted, the former BIGBANG star will be handed over to the military police at the time of his enlistment, and a joint investigation with the civilian police will take place.
Seungri delayed his enlistment in March amid allegations of embezzlement and buying sexual favors. Now, he has been forwarded to the prosecution for seven criminal charges: solicitation of prostitution and prostitution mediation, occupational embezzlement of Burning Sun funds, occupational embezzlement of attorney’s fees, instigating destruction of evidence, violation of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Sexual Crimes, and violation of the Food Sanitation Act. There are no further details regarding this matter as of this writing.
Meanwhile, authorities have previously requested arrest warrants against Seungri and former Yuri Holdings CEO Yoo In Suk for embezzlement. The amounts initially thought to be approximately 530 million KRW, but on June 19, the intellectual crime division of the Seoul central district police station is suspecting a total amount of 1.8 billion KRW (approx $1.5 million) embezzled from Burning Sun’s revenue since its opening.
”We've concluded that Seungri and Yoo In Suk were colluding with Taiwanese investor Madame Lin in the process of their embezzlement,” the intellectual crime division stated.
