Nothing could better complete a day than a hot sip of good and rich coffee in the morning. The caffeine in it would surely boost your central nervous system, keep your minds alert, and even improve your brain's health in no time. But did you know that a cup of coffee can do much more than that?
A recent study conducted showed how coffee could stimulate brown adipose tissue. This tissue, also known as "brown fat," is known in the medical field as one of the tissues that are responsible for burning calories, which eventually can lead to weight loss.
As reported by the online health blog named Body and Soul, there are two types of fat in our body. These fats include white and brown fat. Unlike white fats that are used to store calories, experts claim these brown fats help the body manage blood sugar and blood lipid levels. "Brown fat works in a different way to other fat in your body and produces heat by burning sugar and fat, often in response to cold," explains Professor Michael Symonds from the School of Medicine at the University of Nottingham and also the study's co-director.
In the new study published in Scientific Reports, coffee is linked to the activation of these brown fats, which is normally found in the neck. In the course of the study, experts found out how people's brown fats become hotter after drinking a cup of coffee. The head of the study claims the increase of brown fats' temperature shows that coffee has a direct impact on it.
With the newly discovered information regarding coffee and its positive effect in weight loss, the expert claims the majority will surely benefit from it. "The potential implications of our results are pretty big, as obesity is a major health concern for society, and we also have a growing diabetes epidemic, and brown fat could potentially be part of the solution in tackling them," Symonds added.
As per the recent outcome of the studies, the experts behind says there is still no detailed information with the reason for the stimulation of the brown fat yet. Further studies are still considered in the future to know more about the matter.
Despite the good effects of coffee in burning unwanted fats and calories, experts warn to still drink moderately. As posted by The Active Times, drinking too much of this caffeine could result in undesirable effects such as an increase of your blood pressure, insomnia, and nausea.
