Coconut water is one of the best gifts nature has to offer to us. With lots of vitamins and minerals and amazing taste, this drink won't surely just make you feel refreshed, but also your body is healthier too. But have you've ever wondered how your body can benefit from it?

One of the benefits of coconut water is its potassium content, according to an online video posted on YouTube by Bright Side. Potassium is one of the minerals needed by the body to function well, especially when it comes to managing blood pressure, digestion, heart rhythm, and nerve impulses.

Since this mineral is not produced by the body naturally, one should make sure to include this in their diet by eating foods that have high potassium content. With almost 17% of the daily recommended intake of potassium, coconut should be one that tops your diet list.

Coconut water also works like that of a sports drink, especially in replenishing electrolytes that are consumed and burned while doing exercise, sports, or workouts. Their only difference is its low sugar content, which makes coconut water a far better and healthier alternative than the latter.

According to the experts, there are about seven electrolytes that the body needs for it to function at its best. Five of which can be found in coconut water. These minerals include phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, calcium, and sodium. Lack of enough electrolyte in the body is caused by excessive sweating, vomiting, diarrhea, and inadequate diet.

Furthermore, coconut water is also good for people who want their kidneys to stay healthy. As posted by Mayo Clinic, coconut water acts like a diuretic, which plays an important role in the body's production of urine. Because of how this drink helps in the creation of urine, the bacteria in the urinary tract are effectively pushed out of the body, which decreases the risks of urinary tract infection and other kidney diseases.

Also, water freshly gathered from the coconut has several anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial effects. Thanks to the tannins and lauric acid found in it. Lauric acid, once it enters the body of an adult, will undergo a chemical change and will be converted to monolaurin acid. This acid is what makes coconut an amazing and refreshing immune-booster.

Coconut water can be very good for the body, but experts warn not to consume too much of it. Drinking too much can lead to several diseases such as hyperkalemia, uncontrolled diabetes, hemolysis, rhabdomyolysis, and adrenal failure, which are caused by too much potassium in the body.
