Tesla CEO Elon Musk must be beaming with pride. The car company is witnessing an uptick in sales and the performance trajectory it is taking could be sustained in the coming quarters given that the Tesla Model 3 gained the nod of Europe's vehicle safety board. The Model 3 crash tests showed impressive numbers.
When the general assessment by the European New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) on the Model 3 was published this week, there was only one conclusion to make. For all the bad press that the electric vehicle has been getting lately, it is a safe car in three specific areas.
In the crash tests conducted under the NCAP's supervision, the Model 3 scored 96 percent in protecting adult riding inside the vehicle. In terms of keeping children safe, the car achieved a score of 86 percent. And in terms of treating "vulnerable road users," the Model 3 got a mark of 74 percent, indicating that pedestrians who got caught in accidents involving the car have a high chance of surviving or even coming out unscathed.
Auto Express described the Model 3's NCAP scores as the new benchmark for safety assistance technology, which is a comprehensive evaluation of the following areas: stability control, speed assistance, car-to-car automatic braking, seatbelt reminders, and lane-keep support."
In publishing its findings, Thatcham Research, which is the sole crash test center in the UK accredited by Euro NCAP, said, "The Tesla Model 3 achieved one of the highest Safety Assist scores we have seen to date."
"Its Collision Avoidance Assist system is first class, with its Autonomous Emergency Braking and Forward Collision Warning systems showing high levels of performance ... Tesla has made a virtue of safety in its marketing and it is great to see a car now living up to that promise," added the evaluation report published by CNET.
As far as Thatcham Research is concerned, the Tesla Model 3 can be considered as among the safest electric vehicles available to European consumers. This is especially true for crashes that the Model 3 is fully equipped to avoid.
In relation to the NCAP assessment results, it is not remote that Tesla will further pick up on its good showing in the June 2019 quarter. The company, according to Wired, reported that 95,200 units have been delivered in the months spanning the second quarter of the year, posting a jump of over 50 percent in the previous period.
But one notable item in the company report is that of the total figures accounted for delivery, around 80 percent were Tesla Model 3. It should follow that there will be more gains to come for Musk's company as the thumb up from NCAP could boost sales and orders in the months and quarters ahead.
