Queen Elizabeth II has already traveled to different countries during her long reign. Her Majesty is reportedly UK's best-traveled monarch since she's been on numerous royal trips to all four corners of the globe. However, there are a lot of rules and regulations when she travels, and one particular concern is about the food that she eats.
According to a former private chef who has served the Royal Family, Queen Elizabeth does not eat garlic while on a trip abroad, and she also refuses to have this in the menu. In a report from Marie Claire, Chef Darren O'Grady said the monarch hates the smell and taste of garlic.
Not including garlic on the menu is reportedly a strict rule, so that it would avoid giving Her Majesty bad breath when she greets important people on her royal tours. Gordon Rayner, a Telegraph reporter who have attended 20 royal tours, also confirmed this rule.
He claims that the Master of the Household department would be in the reconnaissance party to inform royal chefs not to add garlic when they cook, or too much spice so it would prevent giving the monarch a bad breath. But then, not all food rules relate to breath, as some of which could be a matter of life and death.
It was noted that foreign chefs are also told not to cook shellfish or any foods that could cause poisoning. This rule isn't just reportedly applicable to Queen Elizabeth, but the entire royal family as well. As per a report from the BBC, this decision is to avoid the chance of food poisoning.
The royal entourage reportedly wants progress to run smoothly and to be free from the disruptions of gastronomic indisposition - thus banning shellfish. And if ever the worst happens, emergencies will respond immediately since the doctor of Her Majesty is always nearby when she travels.
Reports say that Queen Elizabeth's medical practitioner is a Royal Navy doctor and he's reportedly carrying a bulky medical bag all the time, which includes emergency medicine and mobile defibrillator. Moreover, the doctor reportedly makes research to find out where's the nearest hospital is to Her Majesty at all times.
And if ever Queen Elizabeth travels to places where food safety cannot be guaranteed, then the supplies will reportedly be taken with them. Foods will be brought from Britain, as well as other supplies such as bottled water. Also, the monarch reportedly brings a personal pack of blood when visiting a country where blood supply is unreliable.
