Are you addicted to the rich flavorful aroma of your favorite cappuccino but prefer not to be tempted because of its extra calories and high-acidity content? Do you miss giving in to the bitter-sweet temptation of your favorite cup of caffeine?
Fret no more. In this year's Hort Connections conference in Melbourne, Australia, the industry revealed a new beverage, which could satisfy your cravings without hurting your health nor diet — featuring the newest cauliflower latte, a cup of pure goodness without the side effects of the caffeine, as reported by Body and Soul.
The "revolutionary drink" is a product created after broccoli coffee was introduced last year. It is an improved version of the drink, which is way creamier and tastes better everybody will surely love. "Broccoli latte was a great story, a bit of a novelty to create awareness on what is possible," explains John Said, the Fresh Select CEO and farmer.
The best thing about the cauliflower latte is its creamy texture and milky color, which, according to the farmers, would surely attract more consumer since the beverage doesn't look weird. "Our thinking was that cauliflower is a bit creamier and its color is similar to milk, and it wouldn't look like a green coffee," the CEO added.
The creation of this tasty but unique and healthy beverage is an answered prayer not just to coffee lovers but most specifically to people who aren't consuming enough fruit and vegetables. Last year, CSIRO and Horticulture Innovation released a statistic of people who are not fond of eating fruits and veggies. According to the survey, about 51 percent of adults are not fond of eating fruits. On the other hand, about 1/3 of the correspondents are not consuming enough vegetables.
Since cauliflower is known to be one of the most nutritious vegetables, drinking this beverage is no doubt, the best way to get the most out of its benefits. According to Medical News Today, a cup of cauliflower contains about 2 grams of protein, 0.3 grams of fat, 24 mg of calcium, 5 grams of carbohydrate, 2 grams of sugar, 16 mg of magnesium, 47 mg of phosphorus, 51.6 mg of vitamin C, 320 mg of potassium, 16.6 micrograms (mcg) of vitamin K, 61 mcg of folate and 0.197 mcg of vitamin B6.
This vegetable is also good for people who are watching their weight, and calorie intake since a cup of cauliflower only has about 27 calories in it. Considered as a power food, packed with vitamins and minerals, this food is effective in reducing the risks of different diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, obesity, and even diabetes.
