After only a few dates with Prince Charles, Lady Diana Spencer was already engaged to the Prince of Wales. In fact, it was revealed that the pair had only met 13 times when the prince had bent his knee and asked Lady Diana to marry him.
Diana had been speculative about how Prince Charles seemed adamant to marry her at such an early stage in their relationship, especially since he had been previously linked to not only her older sister, Sarah Spencer but also to a then-recently-married Camilla Parker-Bowles, whom he could not seem to stay away from, even during the time he was dating Diana.
However, even though she felt there was something dubious about the proposal, she was compelled to accept it and marry the prince, thinking love would eventually come later in the marriage as well as endless bliss. That was indeed a grand miscalculation on her part.
Lady Diana became Diana, Princess of Wales, after she married Prince Charles in their widely tuned-in fairytale-like wedding. Early on in their marriage, she could already sense the indifference the prince had towards her and merely brushed it off.
However, as the years progressed, Princess Diana was becoming unhappy in the relationship she had entered. The whole length of their relationship and marriage was a complete struggle for her and became a constant mental, emotional, and physical battle for her.
In a recent interview, Princess Diana's previous butler and confidant, Paul Burell, revealed that she badly wanted something from their marriage that she could not seem to obtain. The Princess of Wales had, from the start, longed for Prince Charles to call her beautiful and to show even a little bit of affection towards her.
However, the prince had never given her any sense of security or reassurance. Instead, the princess had grown more and more insecure and depressed in their relationship.
Burell also attests that Princess Diana had bulimia up until the night of her death. This was said to be caused by a remark from Prince Charles when he put his arm around her for an official photo call.
He had grabbed her stomach and told her she was quite chubby down there. This had triggered Princess Diana into an unhealthy obsession of losing as much weight as she could.
Moreover, another insensitive comment from Prince Charles had further pushed Princess Diana into a pool of her misery. The prince had told her straight up that he had never loved her and had only married her to have children, in other words, to produce heirs.
After that confrontation, Diana had cried nonstop daily, and most of the time at night in her room. On top of that, Diana had been suffering from the knowledge of her husband's affair with Parker-Bowles.
She had even confessed in an interview of her coming clean after the divorce, that their marriage had three people in it and was a bit crowded.
The royal couple eventually divorced in 1996 and went on to live their own separate lives---until the tragic car accident in Paris which cost the Princess her life. A few years after her death, Prince Charles married his mistress Parker-Bowles.
