Ever since the Himalayan pink salt has entered the market, the field has loved it big time. Not just because of its beautiful mild rose-like color, but also because of its promised benefits.
There are several benefits a Himalayan pink salt can do to one's body. According to a post by Salt Room, this beautiful salt can help increase hydration, balance electrolyte, balance the pH in the body, regulate the water in the body, strengthen bones, lower blood pressure, and improve metabolism.
Because of the demand and the claimed benefits, these pink salt has been priced expensively. About 100g of pink Himalayan salt could already cost 20 times more than the ordinary table salt. But is this salt worth the price?
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE HIMALAYAN PINK SALT AND OTHER KINDS OF SALT?
Unlike other kinds of salt, the Himalayan pink salt can be found in very few places. These places include the Murray River in Australia, the Maras in Peru, the base of Himalayas, and in Khewra Salt Mine in Pakistan.
These pink salt also has several minerals in it that creates its unique color. Unlike table salt, Himalayan salt has more magnesium, potassium, calcium, and iron content along with other 80 different minerals.
IS HIMALAYAN SALT BENEFICIAL TO THE BODY?
Himalayan pink salt no doubt has a lot of minerals in it, which could benefit the body. But experts say the quantity of these minerals in the salt is too small they don't think it could create a huge difference in the body anymore, as reported by Business Insider.
"So apparently, it's reported you can get around 84 different trace mineral elements. However, it's such a very small percentage of the salt that makes up these minerals that you are highly unlikely to get any real benefit or any trace of them in your regular serving of salt itself", explains Rhiannon Lambert BSc MSc RNutr, a nutritionist and author of the Re-Nourish: A Simple Way to Eat Well.
SO, WHY DO HIMALAYAN SALTS SO EXPENSIVE?
One of the reasons why this pink salt cost more as compared to other kinds of salt is basically because of how it has been marketed in social media platforms such as Instagram, according to Lambert. The salt does look unique and more beautiful, unlike other kinds of salt. But since it doesn't have a lot of benefits and there is no difference when it comes to the taste, Lambert still considered it overpriced. She even thinks it will not be selling millions forever.
